Our primary goal at the 4M Ranch is to produce and raise
the healthiest Thoroughbreds possible. Through pasture management and
rotation, individual feed programs, monthly deworming, vaccinations and hoof
care, we give our young horses the best possible chance at being a winner in
the Thoroughbred racing industry.
The Growing Years:
We take pride in our feed program, utilizing what we believe to be the best equine feed available, Progressive Nutrition, along with horse-quality alfalfa and coastal Bermuda hays. We realize there are different nutritional requirements at the different stages in the growth of foals and reproduction cycles of mares. Therefore, monthly height and weight measurements are recorded via our state-of-the-art Electronic Scale System. Daily turn-out allows us to observe and assess leg and bone growth on each individual.
When changes occur physically with our foals, changes are made accordingly with their nutrition and exercise. We make huge efforts to keep our Broodmares content and happy. They are turned out in large coastal Bermuda grass pastures and fed twice a day in individual feeding pens, so there are no "pecking order" disputes at feed time. Each mare receives exactly what nutritional level is needed for her cycle of heat or pregnancy. We have an array of field selection so timid or maiden mares do not have to compete in a pasture with more mature, seasoned mares.
The Individual Horse:
Here at the 4M Ranch, we handle each individual horse as exactly that...an individual. We are not concerned with time; therefore we do not rush the process. Each horse will "tell" us where he is in his development, what he needs for nutrition and what level of exercise is necessary. Our horses are given the best possible care, but they are not coddled. We want our horses sound and healthy physically, and our experience tells us that the mental aspect of racing is equally important. We therefore make every effort to have our young horse see and experience a diversity of stimuli. This dual approach insures that 4M Ranch horses are physically fit and emotionally sound when they enter the start gates.
Our Customers:
While horses are first in our minds here at the 4M Ranch, we realize that every owner is involved both emotionally as well as financially. Having been on the customer side of the industry for years, we are aware of the many concerns of future owners. The 4M Ranch is a family owned and operated business that is firmly committed to our customers' satisfaction and repeat business.
Thank you!
Jim & Heidie
